Edward "Casey" Cox

Casey holds a Master of Science in Logistics from Florida Institute of Technology, a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Virginia Military Institute, and PMP Credentials from the Project Management Institute.

Casey completed 24 years of service in the United States Army and the Virginia Army National Guard in 2017. During his service career, Casey specialized in logistics with a focus on Ammunition Safety, Maintenance, Transportation, and Procurement. Casey also had the privilege of leading a special Hazardous Materials Response Unit in Virginia, an Aviation Logistics Company in Iraq, and an Ammunition Company in Germany.

Casey’s formal education and military experience translated well to a second career in Project Management. Casey started managing projects while assigned to the Virginia Army National Guard and continued in the profession while working as a Project Manager and Engineering Manager for SP Scientific. He continued developing his Project Management skills while working as the Director of Project Management for CHL Systems.

Notable Projects

Custom Capital Equipment Design Build Processes focused on the Meat, Poultry and Confection Industries.

Managed a joint effort between customer and manufacturer for the development of a new Chocolate Mould handling system. This green-field system received moulds from a robot and used a combination of continuous and intermittent motion to move the moulds through the process line including (stack/de-stack, preheat, chocolate fill, vibration, and de-mould). The design included mechanical, electrical, and control systems along with integration into the plant SCADA system.

Managed a design, build, install project for hamburger patty production. Project included specification and layout of equipment (dumpers, grinders, screw conveyors, and patty formers), specification and layout of support structures (operator platforms, cleaning accommodation, and take away conveyor system), and development of a control system.

Custom Pharmaceutical Equipment Design Build focused on Vial Fill and Finish in an Aseptic Environment Project Manager for a fully automated pharmaceutical vial fill-finish line that received filled vials from a vial filler, racked vials, transported vials using mobile HEPA filtered carts to secondary processing (lyophilization) and then transported vials to capping.  Project included design of vial handling system, racking system, transport carts, and control system that included lot visibility.

Implementation of robotics for production line (raw product) and end-of-line (packaged product) operations. Managed the development of a pick and place robotic system for picking product from an infeed line and placing product in position for packaging using delta robots. Project included design build of the robot frame and conveyance system, integration of packaging systems, and development of a control system that included a vision system.

Project Manager for an end of line robotic palletizing system.  Managed the design and implementation of the infeed and outfeed conveyors, tool head, safety and control systems. Managed the onsite programing, troubleshooting and hand off of the system to the end user.

Plant/Line Process Engineering including equipment specification, control system design, and line layout. Managed the process layout of an entire process line for fresh ready-to-eat dog food. Process line layout included calculating product requirements, machine requirements and physical layout to achieve a required daily production rate.  Assisted the customer in developing specifications for OEM machinery and custom conveyance, piping, and platforms. Ensured that the entire project maintained a focus on cleanability and operator ergonomics.
